Prairie View A&M University student leaders made a trip to College Station, Texas for a visit with Dr. Michael McKinney, chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, and his wife, Lou Ann, on April 15.
During the visit, students were allowed the opportunity to tour McKinney’s home, enjoy a meal with him and his wife, and participate in outdoor fishing.
While touring the house, McKinney provided students with background information about his family and his career experiences.
McKinney mentioned his children, including his two sons, Seth and Brian, who both had successful football careers at Texas A&M University that led to their combined 21 years of experience as professional football players in the NFL.
McKinney also briefly spoke about his experiences while working for the state of Texas, in which he served as commissioner for the Texas Department of Human Health and Services under Governor George H.W. Bush, before later serving as chief of staff for Governor Rick Perry.
McKinney said, “I would like to thank all students for coming to enjoy a visit with me and my wife, I appreciate the students and what they do for the system.”
Prior to the visit with McKinney, students visited the George H.W. Bush Library and Museum in College Station, where they viewed the exhibits.
Exhibits included a timeline of photos and memoirs from Bush’s early life as a member of the military, before eventually recalling Bush’s achievements and his time in office as president of the United States.
