The Prairie View A&M University men’s track team took a short journey to Houston on Saturday, April 23, for the annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet hosted by Rice University.
The track team did quite well as they prep for conference, which is scheduled for next week. Brandon Hicks placed second in the 800-meter dash with the time of 1:51.54, making this his season’s best mark.
Gray said, ” We did good overall, our main goal is to drop our times in every race.” When asked about the upcoming SWAC meet Gray stated, ” I’m ready, I want to get four gold medals in both the 4×1, 4×4 relay, 100-meter and 200-meter dash.”
Senior and Fort Worth, Texas native Jarryd Gray competed in two events, placing third in the 200-meter dash leaving a great mark with a time of 21.08, and placing first with the men’s relay 4×100-meter team which also consisted of Jaymon Levels, Robert Williams, and Robert Odhiambo with a season-best mark of 40.84. Gray was also the top collegiate finisher in the 200-meter event. Williams also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, while William Donelson placed second with a time of 52.45 in the 400-meter hurdles, making this his lowest time of the season. Solomon Cordaren did his best as he placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Williams said, ” I feel good about the meet, we finally dropped our time in the 4X1 and now we rank number one in the conference. I’m very ready for SWAC, I have never been this strong or in this much shape at this point in the season.”
The men’s track team will take a trip to New Orleans, La this weekend to participate in the SWAC Outdoor Championships, which begin April 30 at Tad Gormley Stadium.
The team feels that their chances in the outdoor championship are extremly strong. The Panthers have hard hitters in every event.
