Tiffany Ward selected as 2010-2011 Miss PVAMU

Junior family and community service major Tiffany Ward was selected as the new female representative of Prairie View A&M University during the 41st Miss Prairie View A&M University Scholarship Pageant in the Opal Johnson-Smith Auditorium on April 28.

Ward said, “I am so excited about winning the pageant. I am so grateful and thankful to everyone that has supported me throughout my journey to become Miss Prairie View A&M University. It is still sinking in and in the surreal stage. I have some big shoes to fill, but I am confident that I will represent the university well and I have some great ideas in store for the year.”

The 20-year old Lake Jackson, Texas native emerged as the winner of the pageant after competing against six other contestants including, sophomore social work major LaShun Neal, sophomore nutrition major Christene Williams, junior education major Nancy Butler, senior chemical engineering major Elizabeth Wallace, and junior human performance major Ivana Edwards. Each contestant was allowed the opportunity to impress the judges in four areas; swimsuit, preliminary talent, evening gown, and impromptu questions. By utilizing an electrifying, unique folk dance during the talent portion of the event, Ward was able to win over the judges’ votes through her use of creativity. In addition to winning the award for Best Preliminary Talent, she was also recognized for Best Evening Gown.

Although Ward was chosen as the overall winner of the pageant, Edwards, who was named as First Attendant to Miss Prairie View, also received Most Helpful, Best Swimsuit, and tied with Ward for Best Answer to impromptu questions. Williams was named as Second Attendant to Miss Prairie View. Wallace was also awarded for selling the most ads on her behalf for the pageant.

2009-2010 Mr. Prairie View A&M University Kyle Maronie said, “I felt that the contestants vying for the title of Ms. Prairie View performed well for the most part. Though their maybe some debate, I believe the most consistent person won. The crowd made up for the areas in which the pageant was lacking, because their excitement never faded. I hope that all of the contestants and the new Ms. Prairie View continue to uphold the ideals of the Prairie View Woman.”
