“New roads, more dining options, and campus housing are just a few of many renovations to come,” says Assistant Vice President of Auxiliary Enterprises Tressey Wilson, “It’s a five year plan.” Each renovation was orchestrated with a common purpose in mind: the students.
Execution began with construction on University Drive and near University College, where it was most needed. Contractors began work the first week of June and concluded August 20. Workers are still on campus, adding ramps to sidewalks and street curbs.
Senior psychology major Micah Pinkston said “The new renovations on campus are wonderful, and the streets are smoother”.
This year marks the largest enrollment for a freshman class. At 1700, the number steadily increases every year, and entails a need for more accommodations.
A target area was the Memorial Student Center dining hall, “Renovations were very much needed to benefit not only the students, but future Panthers as well” said senior Courtney Durham. The dining area now has 150 additional seats in addition to two new retail dining lines: Sushi and Chinese.
More renovations will be in progress to beautify the campus and adequately serve every student. The next plan of action is to expand the Farrell Hall parking lot, the University is also looking to permanently secure off-campus housing and shuttle services. A partnership with different entities surrounding the campus is a benefactor for business and students. Look for more upgrades around campus soon.
