Workshop addresses accountability

The Office of Student Activities and Leadership hosted a registered student organizations workshop in the MSC Auditorium Sept, 8.

The workshop taught students and advisers about the risks and responsibilities of having an organization on campus.

Topics that were covered in the workshop included what to do in bad weather, as well as hazing, and how to prevent it.

Steven Ransom, director for student activities and leadership emphasized that it is important for students to understand, and assess the risks associated with the events and activities that they plan.

There is a risk management matrix for student organizations to follow in case they question if a certain activity puts them at risk.

Another subject of importance was students being responsible for fellow prospects and members of an organization.

When a student is representing an organization, it is important that they do it in the most professional way.

Junior mass communications major Cynthia Dees said, “This workshop made me realize that everybody in an organization is accountable if something goes wrong.”
