University Village and University College presented a series of pageants in which contestants were given the opportunity to showcase their talents in quest of the crown.
University Village began the series with its annual pageant, themed after Hollywood, Wednesday, hosted by junior agriculture major Earnest Bradford and senior communications major Elizabeth Gardner.
The pageant included introductions, casual wear, talent, formal wear, and a question and answer segment.
At the end of the night, sophomore political science major Harrison Blair and sophomore music education major Desiree Washington were crowned Mr. and Miss University Village.
Blair said, “I am very grateful I won and I will represent the University Village with all of the pride and dignity the last Mr. University Village did.”
Junior Draymon Austin said, “It was a very fun and rewarding experience. I met a lot of new friends and had fun mingling with the contestants. It feels great to know that my fellow contestants felt as good about me as I did about them.”
The University College continued the pageantry Thursday with an ’80s themed showcase after months of preparation.
Each contestant portrayed a famous rapper and recited rhymes along with a quick biography and discography during the introduction.
Kenneth West won the crowd over with his rendition of “It’s so Hard to say Goodbye.” His talent landed him the title of Mr. University College.
Priscilla Barbour, who was crowned Miss University College, enlightened the audience as she shared her voice through opera.
Senior communications major Kadrion Haskins was impressed with the talent showcased.
He said, “The University College pageant was very high energy and displayed a wide array of talent.”
Brian Andrews of Day 26 also made an appearance.
All winners were given scholarships to aid them in the attainment of their degrees.
