Panther friends and family paid tribute to all former students who have passed away since the founding of the school in 1876 with a memorial service for fallen Panthers.
Dr. Clarence Talley Sr., art professor, was the keynote speaker for the memorial service. “We must never forget, never forget those who have fallen before us. Let us all pay tribute to our fallen Panthers forever,” he said.
Talley spoke about one of the university’s most known alumni, Abner Davis. He was a football player from 1924-1927 who died after sustaining injuries in a game.
“People such as Abner Davis shall live in Prairie View A&M University’s heart forever,” said Talley.
PV Mime ministered to the crowd in honor of the fallen Panthers followed by a song from sophomore education major Desiree Washington.
Camellia Jackson, counselor and alumna from the class of 1999, said, “I enjoyed the memorial service greatly. I enjoyed the speaker Clarence Talley Sr., but my favorite part of the service by far was PV Mime.”
Those in attendance did a roll call naming friends and family who had died in years past.
