On Saturday, Oct. 23 the Prairie View A&M University Panthers faceoff against the Southern University Jaguars in Shreveport, La. at the Shreveport Classic.
The match-up will take place at Independence Stadium as the the Panthers and Jaguars return to Port City for the first time since 2003, for their second-ever meeting in the Shreveport Classic.
Both programs have been struggling coming out the gate this season as they are third and fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West division, respectively. Prairie View is coming off a blowout win over Lincoln (Mo.), while Southern lost a shootout to Jackson State 49-45 in their last outing.
Southern dominated the series with 16 consecutive wins dating back from 1989 to 2005.
However, in the past four years Prairie View’s standing as the ugly duckling of the SWAC has changed under head coach Henry Frazier III. Frazier has a two-game winning streak over the Jaguars and wins in three of the past four meetings.
This also won’t be Prairie Views last trip to Shreveport, as the Panthers are slated to take on Jackson State in the 2011 edition of the Shreveport Classic.
