Panther Dolls celebrate first decade

Shante Moore, program coordinator for the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, enters this basketball season with a new attitude, as she prepares to lead the Panther Dolls dance team into their 10th year at PVAMU.

Junior business management major and co-captain Marie Williams said, “The Dolls have created a bond of love and sisterhood that shines into that audience every time they perform, giving them a place of unity and structure.”

According to members of the team, most of their success can be credited to the hard work of their instructor, choreographer, and director. She has come from a background of dancing since age 10, through high school, and through her college years at Steven F. Austin University.

Moore also performed as a dancer on the Carnival Cruise. Today, she still choreographs for numerous dance teams, including those in high schools. Members of the Panther Doll dance team refer to her as the best thing that has ever happened to them.

The Dolls are now reconstructing themselves from top to bottom, including their image and dancing. They hope to go to competions in the future and put their name in lights. They plan to have fundraisers and have been afforded an opportunity to dance during the halftime show of the Houston Rockets versus the San Antonio Spurs at the Toyota Center on April 1.
