The dean of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University has been nominated to receive an award in recognition of his work in the field of agriculture.
Dr. Freddie L. Richards is currently acting as the Principal Investigator of the U.S. Agency for International Development Ethiopia Sheep and Goat Productivity Program project. His implementation of this program as well as his role in establishing goat research centers around the world have led to his nomination for the USAID 2010 George Washinton Carver Agricultural Excellence Award.
PVAMU and Langston University have collaborated on the Ethiopia project under Richards’s leadership. The project is expected to provide aid to over nine million pastoralists through the promotion of nutrition, health, genetic improvement, training, and infrastructure improvement.
Richards wears many hats in the world of agriculture. Locally, he helped to establish PVAMU’s International Goat Research Center.
The Ethiopia project has served as a showcase for the White House Initiative on HBCUs.
