Beta Gamma Sigma inducts new members

One faculty member and 32 students were inducted Thursday into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society in recognition of their accomplishments.

Beta Gamma Sigma is affiliated with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Less than 30 percent of business schools worldwide are AACSB accredited. Only AACSB accredited business schools are invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society. AACSB is an association of educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations devoted to the advancement of management education.

Only the top 10 percent of business juniors and seniors and 20 percent of MBA majors are invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma. AACSB is highly selective of their membership having only 5,000 members worldwide.

Dr. Kishwar Joonas, a faculty member at PVAMU, was the only staff member to be inducted into the society this year. She said, “The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma closely reflects the mission of College of Business (COB) in relation to student learning.

The value of Beta Gamma Sigma to our students accrues through membership benefits, primarily recognition, networking, platforms for scholarship and leadership programs, and online job board. Striving for excellence is the binding theme that stems from our common affiliation with AACSB.”

PVAMU graduate Eugene Padgett, president of the Houston Professional chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, attended the ceremony, and was able to speak with the students briefly about personal experiences he encountered in order to reach success.

Padgett’s background and client base is diverse and board, with clients in non-profit organizations, financial services, telecommunications, and high tech manufacturing.

Stressing to the inductees to be a relevant presence in their company, and value relationships between professionals and family, Dr. Reginald Bell, professor in the College of Business, gave the chapter charge to the inductees, while delivering words of inspiration and encouragement. He also reminded them how special they are to be selected to the honor society, but said they have a responsibility to uphold the standards of the society.

Bell reminded inductees that they represent the society, and challenged them to continue their academic accomplishments, and welcomed them into the society with pride.

The PVAMU Beta Gamma Sigma chapter has been active on campus since 2006.
