Size matters; Panthers killed on offensive boards

Facing a top 25-ranked opponent is no cake walk, especially if your name is Prairie View.

This past Sunday battled with No. 24 University of Wisconsin in front of 17,230 at the Kohl Center, in Madison, Wis.

Only down by 10 points at halftime, confidence was high going into the locker room.

The Panthers cut the lead to seven early in the second half, but the Badgers quickly turned it into a 25-point cushion with a 21-3 run in just four and a half minutes.

The Badgers would never look back. Prairie View did not make a back-to-back basket after the run and was held to just 24 points in the second half. Wisconsin outscored the Panthers by 34 points in the second half. Prairie View fell to UW to the notch of 99-55.

UW grabbed 24 offensive boards and outrebounded the Panthers 51-16. The Badgers posted their highest point total since the 1995 season, when UW scored a 105-70 win over Eastern Illinois.

Guard Trant Simpson had back-to-back games with point totals of 14 points, which was a team high in consecutive games. Foward Brandon Webb was able to pitch in 10 points in 16 minutes of play, but was unable to record a single rebound.

Prairie View A&M basketball program will be enjoying life on the road life as they travel to play LaSalle on Nov. 18, Providence on Nov. 20, and North Florida on Nov. 23.
