College students. That’s what we are right? So why aren’t we acting like it? I sat in my cognitive psychology class, a class free of freshmen, and listened to my peers complain and hassle our instructor about his syllabus and his willingness to give us extra credit.
Extra credit was not an option that he considered to provide for us, but it’s not something that he is required to give us anyhow.
Extra credit is a privilege, and we act as if it’s mandatory. After the complaints about the extra credit, they then began complaining about the cost of the book.
“Are we even going to use this book? Because I’m not going to waste my time or money if we aren’t.” I just sat and listened to the ridiculous questions and comments that were made. I’m sure that other university instructors are not questioned in the manner that our students question our professors.
The professor speaks, shares his expectations and requirements, and the students are obedient whether they agree or disagree. They’re not battling head-to-head about the syllabus, trying to change things for their own self-interests, or challenge the professor in an inappropriate way.
We as students sound like complete idiots arguing with a professor, who has to give us a grade, about the rules that he has set forth for HIS/HER class!
That is so disrespectful on many levels. If anything, we should be doing whatever we can to be in the good graces of the one who gives the grade. What’s more sad is the fact that these particular group of students were juniors and seniors.
This is pure laziness and ungratefulness at its worst. You need the grade, so you buy the book, and you do the work, to get what? YOUR grade.
No one is going to give you any handouts or anything for free, and to expect one, as a college student is absurd. Stop being ignorant and lazy and do what you came here to do.
Many people use the commonly known phrase, “Well this is PV.” What is that supposed to mean? Prairie View is a university and we should all act accordingly.
We cannot continue to accept the low standards of student morale and behavior. This is PV. So act like it. Otherwise what are you even here for?
