I had no expectations when I first heard the album “All I Want is You.” Once I heard it, I put it in my playlist of songs that I can chill to. Not like neo-soul or anything smooth, Miguel brings hip-hop and R&B together with a bit of alternative. He talks about something everyone can relate to, which is relationships, and has a good way of painting a picture of where his head is. Miguel’s perspective is of a guy who’s been hurt and wants to find love. He is a singer, a songwriter, producer, and performer, so it was only right for Miguel to come out with a work of his own.
The first two singles “All I want is You” and “Sure Thing” are really good ballads that anyone can relate to male or female. “All I Want is You” has been out since the summer of 2010 it doesn’t get old.
The remix has newcomer J. Cole on the track, which is not too bad and sets the mood for the album. The overall album has a sultry sexy sound to it with plenty of vinyl music to add to the atmosphere. The album occasionally switches up the laid back vibe with upbeat dance tracks like “Pay Me” and “To the Moon”.
Another favorite is a song called “Teach Me.” It’s tasteful and endearing but brings up the topic of sex. “Hero” and “Girls like You” are both upbeat, yet they are completely opposite, like how most of the album plays out.
Miguel may not be new to the music industry, but he is new to the masses. I feel he doesn’t really bring anything new as far as content to music, but he adds to the list of guys who “have been hurt.” He has music that many guys can relate to and a softer voice with a look that can catch any women’s eye.
I like Miguel’s music because it doesn’t degrade women or talk about strip clubs and blowing cash. He talks about love. You can play his album from beginning to end and not be disappointed. Whether you are working out, doing homework, or driving you can listen to this anywhere and at anytime.
