The Panther baseball team went 3-1 over their last four games after a pair of double headers at home against the Wildcats of Wiley College on March 29 and the Rams of Huston-Tillotson University on April 5.
The Panthers’ first double header was against the Wildcats who would win both games. In the first game, the Wildcats scored in the top of the 2nd inning after an errant throw to 3rd base by the Panthers and the runner advanced to score.
The Panthers came back and tied the score in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single by senior Brandon Williams. The Panthers blew the game open after a three run home run by junior catcher James Rodriguez.
Sophomore infielder Andre Oliver sealed the deal in the bottom of the 8th as the Panthers would go on to win 5-3. Junior pitchers Cody Thompson and Julio Baltodano combined for 6.2 innings pitched, six hits and three runs while freshman pitcher Cody Murray will be credited with the save after 2.1 innings pitched, one hit and no runs allowed.
In the 2nd game the Panthers shut out the Wildcats with a score of 2-0 after scoring their only 2-run in the bottom of the 3rd. Senior pitcher Kellen Simmons pitched 4.0 innings, allowed five hits and allowed no runs and senior pitcher Anthony Neves earned the save after one inning pitched, one hit and no runs allowed.
The Panthers would go on to split their next double header against the Rams of Huston-Tillotson. In the first game, the Panthers lost 6-5 and shutout the Rams in the next game 5-0.
The Panthers’ next double header will be against rival Texas Southern on April 9 at Prairie View. The games are set to start at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
