The Prairie View A&M Panthers traveled to the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Houston, TX where they took on the Texas Southern Tigers in a SWAC double header. Prairie View took the lead first as Kyle Bible has an RBI double that brought Rafael Perez for the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.
TSU began to take the lead in the sixth after a three-hit frame making the score 2-1, then upped it to 3-1 on Lacy Jacksons sacrifice RBI during the eighth inning. After a mistake at home plate, Andre Oliver crossed home leaving TSU with the lead still but pulling in at 3-2.
PV almost put there tying run on the base paths but missed out as pinch runner James Fontenot was picked off. Prairie View A&M did all of its damage in the first
inning with a five-run frame while Derrick Mitchell struck out five as the Panthers won game two 5-3.
The game continued in Prairie View, TX on Sunday as Giovanni Angel and James Rodriguez combined a total of six hit and eight RBIs winning the game 15-4. Prairie View took an early lead with a 2-1 advantage as Rodriguez recorded an RBI double and Rafael Perez also recorded an RBI. After senior Kyle Bible recorded two more RBIs and the team had a two out rally the Panthers took the lead for good in the third inning.
The Panthers lead shrunk to 4-3 in the fourth inning but snagged the lead again in the bottom half as Andre Oliver recorded an RBI triple along with two more RIs from Rodriguez and Perez turning the game into a four point game 7-3. The Panthers tallied eight runs in the fifth and sixth inning that triggered the 10-run rule in the seventh inning.
Ben Blackburn went the distance as he struck out three to improve to 2-3 on the season. Colby Hines, Rodriguez and Perez finished with three hits each while Angel and Rodriguez finished with four RBIs
apiece.
Sundays win marks the first series win over Texas Southern since 2008 and Coach Waskyla Cullivan’s first ever.
