Rising star Mykel Gray, better known as Miss Mykie, is a singer songwriter from Denver, Colo., who moved to Houston, Texas, at the age of six. This mo-hawk rocking beauty brings a youthful spin to music with her innovative sound and funky style.
As the youngest of six children, Miss Mykie’s upbringing was filled with entertainment. Her family loved to host homemade talent shows in their basement, where she soon learned that she had a true talent for singing.
After graduating from Howard University, Miss Mykie became more interested in developing her music career and began working with long-time friend and producer Yung Chill. She is currently working as an independent artist with Houston’s premier public relations firm, Key PR Group, alongside fellow Panther senior business major Gabrielle Deculcus. Key PR Group’s clientele includes upcoming comedian, “The Kassanova of Komedy: Billy Sorells,” who recently hosted the PV Choice Awards.
As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Gray continuously shows her support with three mix tapes entitled, “That Pink That Green: Volumes 1-3,” under her belt. She plans to release Volume 4 at the end of May. “I would describe my sound as unique. As cliché as it sounds, I have an alter ego. I can be soft and feminine, but once I begin to sing, I’m a completely different person,” said Gray.
In the latest, she just completed a music video for her new single called, “Burn it Up” with Paul Wall, Papa Reu, and Kirko Bangz. She has also worked with the likes of Rick Ross on a song called, “I’m the Best.”
“I was influenced by major girl groups like SWV, TLC, and Destiny’s Child, so I try to uplift and set a positive example for the youth. I would say that the message of my music inspires people to be the best that they can be. I’m all about doing you to the best of your ability.”
Miss Mykie is involved with the Ivy League Foundation that encourages youth to get more involved in communal activities. Gray seems to be well on her way to climbing the ladder of success.
With an abundance of talent and a dedicated team behind her, Miss Mykie is unstoppable. She will be performing at Prairie View on April 28 to promote her upcoming projects. For more information on Miss Mykie, you can visit her website Missmykie.com.
