Cardinals pummel the Panthers

Prairie View Panthers suffered a 31-0 loss to the Lamar Cardinals Saturday at the Provost Umphrey Stadium, with 249 offensive yards and 100 rushing yards gained.
 The night started out discouragingly when the Lamar Cardinals scored the first touchdown with only 7:22 left on the clock in the first quarter.
Sophomore Panther Fred Anderson came out on top the first quarter with 20 receiving yards. Junior line backer Chuck Obi also fought hard the first quarter with four tackles. The Panthers made the Cardinals work to score their second touchdown, which came in the first quarter with 1:08 on the clock.
The second quarter the Panthers’ defense held Lamar to only one touchdown, butstill did not manage to score, giving Lamar a 21-0 lead. The only touchdown the second quarter came within the first two and half minutes. Junior Panther Raheem Cardwell contributed a lot as a line backer that quarter with five tackles.
Coming back from the half the Panthers were on a mission stopping the Cardinals from scoring any touchdowns the third quarter. Defense had a collective 22 tackles only allowing Lamar to score with a 29-yard field goal to increase their lead 24-0.
Quarterback De’Auntre Smiley threw 165 passing yards throughout the whole game leading the offense.
Being the spear of the Panthers’ defense, Raheem Cardwell ended the quarter with 10 tackles, limiting the Cardinals to only one touchdown, still giving them the lead ending it with a 31-0.
The Prairie View Panthers have a 0-2 record for the season.
