The Prairie View A&M University’s Lady Panthers volleyball team fell to the Houston Baptist’s Huskies bite in a 3-1 match at their first home game in the William “Billy” J. Nicks building.
The Panthers struggled the first two sets falling short of a win by five points the first set and four the next (25-20, 25-21). The Lady Panthers had a total of seven kills and 33 attacks in the second set.
Not giving up the Lady Panthers fought HBU for the third set (25-22) with 12 kills.
Senior Breanna McNeil led the team in kills, attacks, and blocks (11 K, 38 TA, 2 BS) behind her was senior right side Bruna Menezes with (9 K, 32 TA).
The Lady Panthers also came on top with a team total of 59 digs. Sophomore Shanice Falson led with 24 followed by 12 from junior Monecia Preston compared to the Huskies’ 48 overall.
With a great team effort, the lady Panthers battled for the fourth set with a hitting percentage of .360, but fell four points short to HBU (25-21).
Adding a “W” to the Huskies’ now 6-2 season record the 2-6 Panthers made sure that the win did not come easy.
“They gave us all a show and a reason to get excited during the game,” said Gold Members Club sophomore architecture and construction science major Brittney Bradford. “I was on my toes during the entire game screaming.”
The Lady Panthers’ next matchup will be Wednesday, Sept. 12 against the University of North Texa
