Prairie View men’s basketball team won its second game of the season leaving the competition in the dust with a 53 point deficit at the William Nicks building with a 55 percent field goal percentage.
Coming off of a home win against Schreiner University, the Panthers defended their home court once more against Arlington Baptist, defeating them 91-38 for the “W” on their season record.
Junior forward Josh Eleby was the player to look at with a 7-9 field goal ratio, scoring the most of 15 points for the Panthers, not far behind teammates juniors Louis Munks and Jules Montgomery with 13 points.
Prairie View totaled out the game with 53 rebounds. Montgomery crashed boards aggressively coming on top with a team high of nine rebounds.
The Panthers were well-rounded on all cylinders and keeping the lead from the very first score of the game, and capitalizing on turnovers to score 23 points and 21 second chance points off Arlington Baptist’s mistakes.
Prairie View was precise on free throws with a 6-9 ratio, leaving no room for error.
Being quick on his feet junior Rasi Jenkins had the most, giving the Panthers five out of the 14 steals in the game.
Prairie View’s starters were not the only ones shooting out the gym, the Panthers bench came with their “A” game to give Prairie View 44 points.
Starting off the season right being 2-1 the predestined SWAC champs will be facing off against Texas A&M University Nov. 15 in College Station.
