Aiming to be SWAC champs the Prairie View Panthers men’s basketball team are on a steady pace with a 4-5 SWAC record
With a lack of consistency in scoring and defense the Panthers have given up 68, 50, 65, 73, and 55 points against SWAC’s Alcorn State, Southern, Texas Southern, Mississippi Valley, and Arkansas Pine-Bluff and those are only SWAC competitors with their overall record of 9-13.
Prairie View shut down the Texas Southern University Tigers in first game with a 12-point lead during the starting half and ended with a two point lead ending the half. Deviating from their lead TSU left with the win.
The Panthers have also given up 1,157 field-goal attempts this season, allowing their opponents to score over 80 points in 7 out of the 13 games. Six of those games being marked as an “L”.
The Prairie View men’s basketball team is currently ranked 218 out of 345 in scoring offense on the NCAA division I with 1,380 recorded points for the 2012-2013 and number 307 on the charts for field-goal percentage having themselves 40 percent from the field with 523 makes out of the 1,303 attempts.
The inconsistency poses as a threat for future games in the season. Currently standing in fifth place of the conference, the Panthers have a chance to catch up to the top spot with nine games left in the season .
Four of those games being played in the William “Billy” J. Nicks Building.
Prairie View men’s basketball team may take this as a concern before it becomes a critical issue that hinders their championship pick from becoming reality.
