The Prairie View Panthers dropped the ball against the Jackson State Tigers as they fell short of a victory, 65-60, on Jackson State’s home court Feb. 11 at the William Athletics and Assembly Center.
Off to a solid start the Panthers took control of the paint with junior Josh Eleby scoring four points in the beginning. Jackson relied on their outside shooting to compete with the Panthers.
Senior shooting guard Ryan Gesiakowki kept the Panthers in the game with back-to-back 3’s putting them in the lead 16-15 with 13:39 remaining.
Down a point with 11:57 left in the first half Jackson State grew their lead 27-20 over the next two minutes.
The Panthers’ struggled holding on to the ball in the first half, committing 11 turnovers and being out-rebounded 17-13. As the Panthers tried climbing back in the lead Jackson State did not let up outscoring the Panthers 41-27, by the end of the half.
The Panthers fought back the second half closing their point deficit 63-55 with Jackson State still in the lead at the 2:01 mark of the game.
Prairie View wasted opportunities to comeback with two missed baskets, drawing no closer in the game. The Panthers split the series with JSU for the second year in a row.
Prairie View men’s basketball team will be competing against the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils Feb. 16 at the William “Billy” J. Nicks building.
