Many people in the United States have acquired an unusual craving for Apple electronics over the years. Apple has been on a roll releasing new and updated products, which could be a product overload.
At any place and time an Apple product is in plain sight, from little kids sliding their sticky fingers across the crisp screen of an iPad to the newfound “hip” adults, 65 and over, face timing with their loved ones with the new iPhone. CNBC has reported over half of the homes in the U.S., which is over 55 million; own an Apple product of some kind.
Emotional connections develop from Apple users deeming the products the “best” there is with its unique operating system and stylish build. People scramble to get the newest iPod that is now touch and upgrading to the newest iPhone as they are introduced to the public. Apple’s innovations have become a nationwide trend in which society has at the top of their “must have” list.
Curious minds wonder what it is about Apple that has society flocking like birds to purchase at first chance. Some argue it is simply because of the name brand and it is becoming a trend to have, while others believe because they are marketed tremendously well.
Joseph Polk, a senior mass communication major said, “Apple is definitely taking over because to me it is a trendsetting product. There is a lot of hype about it even though there are other products out there that do the same thing.”
The development and improvement of some of the Apple products has people excited while others question just how necessary some things are. Since 2010, four generations of the iPad have been released followed by the iPad mini, which released in November 2012 causing eyebrows to raise.
“I like Apple products. The battery life on the products beat Android by a mile, but they do have Apple products that are unnecessary like the iPad mini. It is just a giant iPod touch, but people are going to continue to buy them just to say they have them,” said Amber Boyd, a senior mass communication major.
People will dish out hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars for Apple simply because they are loyal to the brand ignoring other products that could do the same things for less money.
“People will probably continue to go to Apple because they have been around forever and that is all they have ever used.” said Boyd.
