Softball increase losing streak against Huskies

Prairie View A&M’s losing streak extended to seven games on Tuesday as Houston Baptist claimed a 6-0, 14-4 doubleheader sweep at Husky Field.
In game one, PV hung close until HBU broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning to claim a 6-0 win in the opener.
PV’s struggles with two outs reared its head once again in the third inning as HBU’s Rebecca Rademacher hit a two-RBI double with two outs for a 2-0 lead. PV struggled against HBU pitcher Sarah Shotton as they were held to only two hits as their best scoring opportunity came in the sixth. In the sixth, junior shortstop Leanna Flores singled to left, but Alisa Navarro’s shot to right field fell a few feet short of the outfield fence. With one out in the sixth, HBU put the game away as a PV throw error and consecutive walks led to a four-run scoring burst.
Junior pitcher Cally Falls (9-10) was tagged with the loss while Flores and Navarro recorded hits for the Lady Panthers.
PV rallied back from an early 2-0 deficit to claim a brief lead in game two but failed to hold on as HBU claimed a 14-4 win.
HBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first but PV’s bats came to life in the second as Lauren Grun, Olivia Pace, Leanna Flores and Brenecia Woods recorded RBIs for a 4-2 lead. However, the Lady Panthers couldn’t hold on to their lead as HBU scored six times in the second to reclaim an 8-4 margin.
After a scoreless third by the Lady Panthers, HBU crossed home six more runs in the fourth to seal the win and trigger the run-rule as PV failed to score.
Flores and freshman Peyton Simms tallied two hits each while Tiffany Robertson drew two walks. Sarina Rios fell to 3-2 this season on the mound. PV returns to action on Friday as they’ll face TSU at 3 p.m. in Houston’s Memorial Park.
