Football season kicks off with a bang

Panther football returned for the 2013 season in impressive fashion. The panthers faced their longtime rivals the Texas Southern University Tigers in the Labor Day Classic on August 31 in Houston, Texas. The stands of the BBVA Compass Stadium filled slowly as PV and TSU fans alike gathered to watch their respective teams battle in their season openers. PV took a commanding lead, scoring on the first drive of the game and never looked back to win the Labor Day Classic in convincing fashion. The start of football season also means the return of PVAMU’s own Marching Storm, who took the field during halftime as the pride and joy of the university. Fans watched and sang along as the legendary band delivered a grand performance. Panther pride was present all throughout the stadium that holds 22,000. The visitor side of the stadium was painted purple and gold as students, alumni, fans, the band, cheerleaders, and all other panthers came from near and far to kick off the 2013 football season. The panther football team then went on to face Texas State in San Marcos on September 7 where the season lost a bit of momentum when they were defeated by the Bobcats 3-28.
