There are two powerful ladies this year on the hill working to create change for Prairie View A&M University. Breanna Green, Miss Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), and Priscilla Barbour, the new SGA president.
Green, a senior psychology major from the Dallas area, is a member of the Purple Jackets, PALS, Honors Program, Psychology Club, Philosophy Club, and GMC, who serves as the 2013-2014 Miss PVAMU.
Previous titleholders of Miss PVAMU are who inspired Green to take on this wonderful position. As Miss PVAMU, Green’s platform for the 2013-2014 school year is wear different GOWNS (Globalizing Opportunity for Women Now).
“I’d really like to encourage our ladies to be more competitive in the workplace,” says Green. There are various ways to achieve this by learning a new language, studying abroad, and by being culturally diverse.
As a leading lady of PVAMU, Green is working on setting an example that younger females can respect, admire, and follow.
Barbour is a senior political science major from Dallas and a member of the Purple Jackets, SGA, PALS, Sociology Club, Political Science Honor Society, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Barbour is the 2013- 2014 Student Government Association (SGA) president.
Inspired by her sister, who was the SGA president at Grambling State University, Barbour states that she decided to take on the role of SGA president for PVAMU to show what the school has to offer and “to prepare our students for life after college.”
“My goal as SGA president is to rebuild the culture and instil the excitement that when I leave here I’m a part of the brand of Prairie View,” says Barbour.
She lives by the saying, “position yourself where you can choose and not be chosen.”
Barbour says “I live where I’m going to make my life undeniable.”
As a leading lady of PVAMU, Barbour is setting the example for others to be the change they wish to see.
