
Prairie View A&M let off of the gas pedal late in the second period in a 9-0 win over Alcorn State on Sunday afternoon, and the Lady Panthers still set a school scoring record under coach Abe Garcia against a Division 1 opponent.
Prairie View A&M received scoring from all positions in the blowout victory. Senior midfielder Katherine Sheppard started the scoring spree off in the first period with a goal in the sixth minute off of an assist from defender Kamra Brown.
Brown later got into the action herself with a goal in the 49th minute to give the Lady Panthers a 7-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers scored six goals in the first period.
Senior forward Angie Guillory scored two goals in the match. They came back-to-back in the 21st and 31st minutes to give Prairie View A&M a 4-0 lead and give Guillory her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Five Lady Panthers players scored their first goals of the season in the record-setting win, including: Sheppard, Brown, junior defender Carly Detter, junior midfielder Ashley Virgil, and junior defender Nahuacalli Romo-Lara.
Sophomore forward Breanna Powell and senior midfielder Maria Sanchez contributed with their second goals of the season.
In the middle of it all was junior midfielder Shelby Moore, who tallied three assists in the match as the Lady Panthers knifed through the Alcorn State defense with ease. Goalkeeper Bianca Garza recorded her third-consecutive shutout and improved to 2-0-1 on the season as Prairie View A&M improved to 4-8-1 (1-1 SWAC).
The team has two Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division games remaining, and they will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff followed by Grambling State on Oct. 25 and Oct. 27 respectively.
