Christie Cummings, Miss Prairie View 2004-2005, will participate in the First Annual Southwestern Athletic Conference Pageant, hosted in Birmingham, Ala., March 7, at 7:30 p.m. Cummings will be performing her rendition of Home from The Wiz.
The winner of the SWAC Pageant will be awarded a scholarship and other prizes. The winner will make appearances throughout the year, serving as an ambassador for the SWAC.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has partnered with women Achieving Victory through Excellence (W.A.V.E., Inc.) to sponsor the event. W.A.V.E., Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides scholarship assistance and personal and professional development among young minority women by encouraging them to tap into their creative abilities and other talents.
The SWAC is comprised of 10 historically black colleges and universities across Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. With 18 men’s and women’s sports, the SWAC is a NCAA Division 1 Conference.
