Q. Why did you come to PV?
A. My mother had a co-worker whose children came here, and all she could talk about was, it’s a wonderful campus. I always wanted to go to a black school and I have family here.
Q. Who inspires you?
A. Really, God inspires me. God is the backbone behind everything I do. I always pray and ask for guidance before I do anything.
Q. What type of music is in your CD player?
A. Jill Scott is in heavy rotation, so I have to say neo soul and gospel. I try to listen to those more than hip-hop because I get a better feeling overall. When I start my day, that’s what I listen to that gets me going.
Q. What was the last concert you attended?
A. I went to the Stevie Wonder “Toys for Tots” and everybody was there: Alicia Keys, Angie Stone, and some other unknown artists were there as well.
Q. Have you written any music?
A. I do write music. When I sang at the Miss University Village pageant, I sang one of my original songs. I was playing the piano on it as well.
Q. Are you going to pursue a record deal?
A. I want to be behind the scenes as well. I want to be the producer, composer, and learn all the aspects as well as being an artist. That’s why I’m taking business management, so in the end I can own my own production company.
Q. When can we expect your CD to be out?
A. In a while. I’m in collaboration with Micole Williams. She’s doing the sound track because she’s producing a film in the near future. Me, J. Stone. and a lot of other artists are all working on that now. After that’s completed she’s going to shop that to producers. That should be finished at the end of March.
Q. What is it you want people to feel from your music?
A. I want people to be inspired to go out and do something. Most of the music I write, I have a lot of gospel. I also have some experiences that I’ve been through in relationships and things like that. I always try to write something that at the end you feel uplifted, like you can get through it. Because when I’m writing it may be something that’s sad, but at the end I always put inspiration from myself so I can keep going.
