The poker world, especially the game “No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em,” has exploded over the past year. With television coverage by ESPN, ESPN 2, The Travel Channel and Bravo, and a vast amount of poker articles written every day for magazines, newspapers and internet columns; the game of poker is sweeping across the land with help of racetrack-shaped tables and increasable KEM playing cards.I figured it’s about time for Prairie View A&M University to jump on the bandwagon and see what “Texas Hold ‘Em” is all about. You might not know this, but there are many poker players on your campus right now. The fastest growing game in the world takes a minute to learn, but a lifetime to master.
You might ask… How do I start playing poker? Or where do I start playing? It’s simple. There are games all around you and you don’t even know it.
The poker games that were once underground, secluded, and private have become more public and tolerated by society. These games change from all sorts of different Hold ‘Em” formats, styles, price ranges and even freerolls, for those who are in it for just the excitement and not the money.
“One of my favorite things about ‘No Limit’ is the thrill of not knowing whether you have the best hand or not,” says freshman Christopher Scurry. “The odds can turn on you in a second.”
As long as no single individual or business is benefiting, or profiting, from you and your friends playing poker, then the game is perfectly legal. With drinking and partying, the only return you might get is a hangover-or arrested. With poker, if you aren’t an addict and manage your money with some restraint, you have a chance of finishing the night with more money than you began with. You have a chance of getting a return on your investment.
From tournaments to cash games, “No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em” has something that intrigues nearly everyone who comes across it. If you want to play poker and are looking for a game without the super high stakes, then contact Reagan Rothe via email, primetime_09@hotmail.com.
