Bowling team defeats defending national champion

The Lady Panthers bowling team beat national champions, the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a four game Baker set with a total pin count of 666 to 643 during the Nebraska Big Red Invitational tournament last week.

The Lady Panthers finished seventh in the tournament with a total pin count of 11086. Top performers were team captain and junior Kristina Sadler with a 174 pin average and co-captain Lejewelia Lewis with a 173.4 pin average.

During the tournament the Panthers finished with a two win- two loss record the first day, a five game loss the second day and a one win-four loss record the third day.

Coach Glenn White said, “I’m very proud of the way the team performed and battled in this event. We knew we were going to be competing against some of the top teams in the country. It was certainly a learning experience and we will work harder in our areas of weakness to continually improve. Defeating the reigning national champions was a huge win for us and I think it says a lot about where the program is headed and the possibilities that exist for this bowling program to become not only SWAC Champions but eventually compete for the NCAA championships.”

The Lady Panthers will be competing Nov. 14-15 in Houston at the Lady Tiger Classic hosted by TSU at Palace Lanes. The tournament starts at 9:30 a.m.

Coach White is asking everyone to come out and support the team in their only tournament close to PVAMU.
