College of nursing joins “Go Green” program

Following the inception of Prairie View A&M University’s first recycling program, the University’s Student Government Association (SGA) plans to extend the environmentally friendly initiative to the College of Nursing School located in Houston.

“The College of Nursing was always looking for ways to participate not only in this program, but do their part as an entity,” said SGA President Robert Powell. “The support and effort from the student body and administration has facilitated us to increase our tonnage which has ultimately boosted the number of recycling bins placed on the main campus.”

The extension of “Go Green” will kick off in a few weeks. The “Go Green” project, is subsequently the same structure as is on the main campus.

The Abitibibowater Company will continue to be the University’s main recycling supplier and about eight of the new totters will be placed in generalized locations around the downtown Houston campus.

The “Go Green” program has not only raised awareness to students and faculty, but also helps continue to beautify the ecosystem by recycling paper, cardboard and books.

Eventually, Powell wants to expand the “Go Green” program and have recycling bins for glass, batteries and cans, but you have to find companies that will come out to Prairie View.

With minimal resources available in the city of Prairie View to help the program grow, even more students, faculty and staff can always do their part in ensuring the longevity of the “Go Green” project within their everyday lifestyles.

Powell said, “It’s the little things that you can do to help that the students really don’t realize they are doing already.”

Powell urges all students to participate in the program.
