Spring Fest 2007 kicked off with poetry night Sunday March 25, at 5 p.m. in the MSC lobby.
The event was hosted by Philip Wade and Orok Orok, and had a Treasure Island theme. Guests received maracas and Hawaiian flowers.
Poetry night, which featured original songs and poems by members of the student body, was interspersed with comedy acts by the hosts and freestyle poetry battles. Students Ivory Townsel, Tasha Woodson and Emmanuel Bean, in addition to other performers, left audience members on their feet.
“I had no idea Prairie View students were so talented,” said Felicia Briscoe, a junior agriculture major. “I plan to attend more events like these so that I can really become familiar with the culture of the campus. Prairie View students have so much to offer.”
Students sipped on frozen refreshments while listening to a live band. An open mic session followed the scheduled program.
“I loved the atmosphere,” said Brittany Grant, a junior psychology major. “It was relaxing and the talent was amazing, and there was so much positive energy. I really loved the freestyle poetry battle. If you weren’t there, you missed out. It was hilarious.”
Briscoe said, “It really was a wonderful experience. Each act was very original. I can’t wait to see what the rest of Spring Fest will be like.
