Texas A&M student’s killer won’t ask to be released on bond

HOUSTON (AP) _ A man who is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and then burning her dismembered body on an outdoor grill will not ask to be released from jail on bond, his attorney said Monday.

Timothy Wayne Shepherd is charged in the killing of 19-year-old Tynesha Stewart, a Texas A&M University student. Authorities say he confessed to strangling her because he was angry she had begun a new relationship. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

Stewart was last seen with Shepherd on March 15 while she was home for college for spring break.

Chip Lewis, Shepherd’s attorney, said investigators told him Shepherd’s life would be in danger if he were released, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday.

The case drew attention initially when investigators said they would not search for the body because it may have ended up in one of several landfills. Authorities said it will be difficult to find Stewart’s body because the trash bin has been hauled off at least twice since last week and taken to different locations.

Sheriff Tommy Thomas revealed Saturday, however, that investigators were aware at the time that there were no remains to be found.
