My brother’s keeper

In my contributions to The Panther, I usually write about national political issues.

This is because I believe that my fellow Panthers should constantly be challenged in their political thought. That way we don’t become part of the masses with a chip on their shoulders towards whoever the media is targeting at the time.

This time, however, I want to address issues a little more close to home.

My question is simply this: “What is your legacy?” As students on the campus of Prairie View A&M University, we are part of an historic legacy that was started over 130 years ago.

It is now not only our honor and privilege, but our duty and responsibility to uphold this legacy beyond all preconceived measures.

Simply put, WE ARE THE HILL. However you want to slice it, dice, or say it, we have to invest ourselves in the success of our peers. I am not saying that we are individually responsible for everyone else’s actions. I am saying, however, that we are all individually responsible for the culture we create on the yard.

Gentlemen, I cannot stress this enough: PULL UP YOUR PANTS. It’s not cool, fashionable, functional, and FYIthe ladies don’t find it too attractive either. Ladies, there is a difference between what you wear to class, and what you wear to the club. Your attire should not be distracting in the classroom. If I’m trying to take notes, and I can see the crack of your behind because you are sitting in front of me, something is wrong.

Everyone, we need to elevate our levels of thinking. Instead of talking about the latest reality TV shows, trade ideas in classes or your feelings on the latest topics in the news. Instead of spending your overpayment check at the mall for a few polos, try investing your money or at least putting it in a savings account. You should have a goal to be worth more than what is in your bank account.
