Prairie View A&M University’s men’s tennis suffered a loss on Sunday, Feb. 14 against Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
The game was held in Lafayette, La. One would have thought that the match would have ended in favor of the Panthers because of “Valentine’s Day”, but their heart was broken.
Craig Wiltz and Kristen Powell of Prairie View played Florida A&M’s Jackson and Moore in a doubles match that one would say ended fairly quickly.
The final score was 8-2 in Florida A&M’s favor, but Prairie View did make an attempt to bring a win home. Kristen Powell and Ruda Ngatoti defeated Florida A&M’s Mytrit and Wamukowa with a final score of 9-8.
Another downfall came from players Jose Garcia and Chris Jordan of Prairie View, who were defeated by Asafy Adigye and Happy of Florida A&M with a final score of 8-5.
Meanwhile all the singles players were unfortunately unable to finish their matches due to the weather.
Six matches were in the progress when the rain came down so hard that all the matches had to be stopped. Both teams attempted to wait out the rain, but never stopped.
Prairie View A&M University’s women’s tennis participated in a tennis tournament this past Valentine’s Day.
However, much like that of the men’s tennis team they had their hearts broken by various schools such as University of Southern Mississippi and Lamar University. The tournament took place in Beaumont, Texas.
Both the singles players and doubles players of the Panthers lost their matches against the University of Southern Mississippi and Lamar University. Lamar University’s Ashrafi and Guiferrer defeated doubles players Makuni and Ndlvo, with a final score of 8-0.
Singles player Munashe Malcuni was defeated by University of Southern Mississippi with a final score of 6-3, 6-4.
The two matches were forfeited due to Prairie View A&M not having a large team. Perhaps a win might have taken place if the Panthers had a larger team, but that’s up for the coaches to decide when recruiting for the next season ahead.
