Women’s track runs in New York

Prairie View A&M women’s track team has been astonishing fans with their great speed and unity.

Now to the Big Apple, New York City, where the Prairie View A&M women’s track team participated in the annual New Balance invitational this past weekend.

Starting with the 60 meter dash, junior and well experienced runner Destiny Jernigan ran very well in heat number two, placing third with an overall time of 8.03, and finishing 40th overall in the heats.

Freshman Raven Turner also competed in the 60 meter dash, running in heat number three, placing a time of 8.15 and finishing 53rd overall.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Terracia Moody ran outstanding in heat number twelve, placing second with a time of 25.63 and 27th overall, also freshman Raven Turner and sophomore Tameria Dansby also competed in the 200 meter and both runners ran respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, Terracia Moody outran her heat and placed first with a time of 58.05 and 22nd overall.

Junior Whitley Dobbins also competed in this event and placed fourth in her heat, with a time of 1:00.79.

In the 800 meter run, Freshman Myesha Dixon placed third in heat number two, with an overall 16 finish. Fellow freshman Branee Robinson also ran in the 800 meter and performed very well.

In the four by 200 meter relay, the team of Parks, Moody, Johnson, and Turner ran very well together in heat number three by placing a time of 1:44.61 and finishing 16th overall.

In the 4X400 meter relay, the combination of Moody, Margret Harris, Raven, Whitley in heat number two placed first with a time of 3:56.67 finishing 10th overall.

In the 4X800 meters, Leticia Bustamante, Angel Brooks, Robinson, Guadalupe Bustamante placed 12th and 13th overall with a time of 9:47.02.

In the 4000 meter, the team of Leticia Bustamante, Robinson, Guadalupe Bustamante, and Brooks were placed in heat number two and they performed very well by placing 9th and 21st overall with a time of 13:00.34.

Sophomore Corinna Brown participated in the high jump and long jump that demonstrated the versatility and athleticism from the young runner who was pleased with her results.

In the shot put competition, sophomore Megan Mitchell was placed in flight number two and placed 12th, and 54th overall by throwing a distance of 11.05m.

Junior Andréa Chambers was placed in flight number three and performed well enough to capture 8th place and 48th overall by throwing a distance of 11.86m.
