The Lady Panthers had another loss Monday night against Mississippi Valley State at the R.W. Harrison Complex in Itta Bena, Miss., with the score ending 61-50.
Dominique Smith started the Lady Panthers off right by scoring the opening basket. Prairie View managed to get a 9-4 run, but the Lady Devilettes’ Ashley Brown made a shot behind the arch getting two points changing the scoreboard 13-11.
Brown later tied the game in the first half driving down the court tying the score 13-13 at the nine-minute mark. Courtney O-Briant gave MVSU the first lead of the game with an amazing ten-foot jumper placing the score 15-13. At the end of the first half, the Lady Devilettes conquered the court ending the first half 29-22.
MVSU started the second half with Brown scoring a three pointer pushing the game to the limit; the Lady Devilettes had a total of 17 points off turnovers. Smith successfully gained the Lady Panthers’ seven points with consecutive baskets. During a ten-minute-span both teams traded baskets back and forth on the court causing suspense with the crowd. Unfortunately, MVSU wasn’t giving in that easily and held an eleven-point-margin against PVU in the last few minutes of the second half.
The Lady Devilettes ended the second half 61-50 winning the game.
Smith led the score with 30 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and two assists. While Jones followed with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Panthers were defeated last Saturday by Arkansas Pine Bluff at the H.O. Clemmons Arena leading the score 72-59.
UAPB started the game with the tip off and managed to gain two free throw shots by Jenise Gentry. Then, Courtney Larson made a three pointer placing the Lady Panthers on the scoreboard, followed with a jumper by Ciara Banks at the 18:36 mark leading the Panthers by three.
Smith made an effort to keep the Lady Panthers going with a 6-0 run regaining the lead 15-12. UAPB refused to give up that easily by having a 8-2 run, with a jumper by Jasmine Blanks in the last seventeen seconds of the first half with a score 28-24.
Shay Holmes achieved two free throw shots at the 10:15 mark leading the score 50-40.
Larson managed to get a three-pointer the last four seconds, but the Lady Panthers still fell behind while the Lady Lions won a victory, ending the game 72-59.
Smith had 23 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Larsen followed with nine points, two rebounds and four assists. Sharde Henry also had seven points and two rebounds.
