This past Friday the Lady Panthers competed against the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars in a doubleheader losing 11-3 in the first game and 12-1 in the second.
The Panthers got off to a great start on defense.
Junior Artavia Woods made a great catch in the first inning for the second out of the game and the third out came shortly afterwards.
On offense, the Panthers’ struggled to defeat the Jaguars’ defense. Woods attempted a slap bunt but the effort was intercepted by the UH-Victoria third baseman.
Junior Kesha Hagerman tried her best to rally against the Jaguars with a hit to second but her attempt was unsuccessful, and she was thrown out by the second baseman.
Back on defense junior Bridgett Coronado played stellar defense and sophomore Jasmin Littles contributed to defensive efforts by securing the third out of the second inning.
The Lady Panthers hit the ground running in the bottom of the second. Freshman Destin Darby started off the inning with a bang by getting a hit to an infield gap.
Top of the third, freshman Antoinnia King started off the defensive efforts with a great catch, but not to be outdone Allison Hinton of the Jaguars retaliated with a hit which led to the first score of the game.
The third inning was a long and eventful inning, which was filled with scoring by the Jaguars and errors by the Panthers.
Once the Panthers got the chance to make up lost ground, the Ladies were able to actually make some things happen but failed to score.
On defense UHV’s Elizabeth Glowney was put out by Little’s.
On account of errors made by the Panthers, the Jaguars were able to advance and steal, errors made in the inning resulted in scoring.
UH-Victoria took advantage of every error made as an opportunity to score and the score reflected their competitive spirit.
According to fan freshman Alexandria Sauls, “the Ladies need to find a source of motivation. They need to dig deeper to achieve the victory and know they are capable of achieving.”
