Letter from BSM

It is my understanding that certain statements that were recently published in the Wednesday, March 3, 2010 issue of The Panther in the article titled “Funding falls too short,” in reference to the Baptist Student Movement choir may have been misconstrued or taken out of context.

Often individuals or parties will make statements without fully considering the consequences that may ensue.

The statements made by Antonio Redmon in the aforementioned publication do not in any way accurately represent the views of the BSM.

It is for this reason we would like a retraction printed in the next publication of The Panther, stating that the Baptist Student Movement would like to retract or denounce those statements made by Mr. Antonio Redmon.

The exact statements that we request to be retracted are, “I believe the university is stuck on separation of church and school, they want to be cautious of mixing religion with school. However, they don’t realize the positive energy we are bringing to the campus. As an organization, the Baptist Student Movement, being one of the oldest organizations on this campus, has been declined twice by the SGA for funding. It somewhat hurts because you know that you’re doing something that you are called to do and love dearly, but you don’t receive the support you need.”
