Student voices will be heard

During a candid interview with Steve Ransom, director of student activites, and Olu Oludayo, SGA President, they both explain how and what procedures give all students at PV a voice of their own. On Monday, Oct. 3, many students and faculty witnessed protests, headed by the Charles Gilpin Players, that began in front of the administrative building, and then spread across campus throughout the day.

Although he does not reject the option to protest for what one believes is right and just, Olu Oludayo said that there is a protocol in place to handle all student affairs: “SGA has a senator to represent every academic area on campus.

Students can go to the SGA office to find out which senator represents their department.” Oludayo continues to explain that once the senator is informed of the students’ concern, SGA will handle the situation from that point.

Oludayo outlined other ways student issues can be heard: “If a student wants to become a big part of the solution, elections are held every year for office. Also, students can personally e-mail me, come to the SGA office, or directly e-mail the department in which students have concerns.”

In the midst of the protesting uproar, Oludayo said that a much needed protocol will be put into place: “Students need to bring specific concerns to the SGA’s attention and then those issues will be given to Dr. Wright. If requests are not answered in a timely fashion, SGA will move up the chain of command to get answers for students.”

As the SGA advisor, Ransom assured students that SGA is comprised of a group of individuals who are working together to be the eyes and ears for the students: “SGA’s main priorities are to have administration available to students on a regular basis so that policies and procedures can be carried out effectively.”

Oludayo wanted students to know that with him as SGA president he will do all that is in his power to make sure students’ rights are protected, and their voices are heard: “I am a different person now than who I was when I came to PV.

My true passion is to give back to PV all that I have gained from it.
