PV hosts drug symposium

Students slowly funneled into the Memorial Student Center, eager to hear from experts, about the dangers of drugs and drug abuse during the Drug Symposium on April 14.

President George C. Wright urged students from his own experience that it is best to not even experiment with illegal drugs.

Wright said, “You don’t know what opportunities you will be giving up if you get involved.”

The premier speaker of this event was Dr. Susan Dalterio, a professor from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She gave examples of not only her knowledge of the field but gave examples of drug use from even her own students. She taught that human brains get tricked into releasing Dopamine by using both prescription and illegal drugs.

Those students who arrived first received a ticket that was redeemable at the end of the program for prizes including a T-shirt.
