Copeland wins Mr. Prairie View

Junior accounting major Malcolm Copeland was overjoyed with excitement, as he emerged as the winner of the annual Mr. Praire Vew pageant on April 21 in the Opal Johnson Smith auditorium.

This year’s theme was the “Footprints of Legacy” in honor of the key successors of legacy, where six contestants ran for the title of Mr. Prairie View.

The pageant opened with an opening selection with the six contestants and the former Mr. Prairie View Kyle Maronie to the song “Universal Mind Control” by Common. The song preceded the contestant introductions.

Senior communications major Alyssa Rhodes said, ” I was excited that this year it was an actual pageant because the past two years have been showcases. I really hope this doesn’t discourage the others, because I would love to see them run for the title again.”

The pageant consisted of an active wear, talent, formal wear, and impromptu question and answer.

Contestants had the opportunity to showcase their talents through comedy, singing, or a spoken monologue.

The top three contestants scored high in talent, impromptu, and formal wear. Judges picked senior music education major Deshawn Stevens as second runner up, and junior accounting major Terry Barton as first-runner up to the newly crowned Mr. Prairie View.

After the pageant, a reception followed on the second floor ballroom foyer. Students and faculty had the privilege to meet and greet pageant contestants and the newly crowned Mr. Prairie View.
