President George C. Wright recently compiled a list of highly acclaimed literature. The book list features some of the most commended and notable ever written.
Wright developed the book list in an effort to educate students about the importance of life-long learning and exploration. ” I am a former history professor and I’ve always read a lot. I’ve always been interested in reading and exploration,” Wright said. “I’ve discovered that people are fascinated with books. The world can open up to you from reading, you can learn so much.”
Many of the books on the list are Pulitzer Prize winning novels, which Wright himself has read. The list is divided into classifications ranging from books one should read prior to their freshman year of college to books you should read in your senior year of college.
“The books were categorized based on the difficulty level, and personal views. I also asked other people their opinions on what books they would recommend for the list.” said Wright.
The list features several genres of literature including war stories, books on religion, and books on race relations. The books include: “A tree Grows in Brooklyn”, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, “Black Boy: A Record of Childhood and Youth”, “King Leopold’s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror”, “Heroism in Colonial Africa”, “Go Tell It On The Mountain”, and “Lonesome Dove” just to name a few. This literature arrangement is Wright’s second suggested list of readings.
The President said, ” I am committed to making sure that students at Prairie View get much more that a degree. I want them to leave with an education and become well-rounded knowledgeable individuals; reading is the key to achieving this. It can change your life and take you places you never imagined.
