Lady Panthers lose back to back away from home

The Prairie View A&M women’s soccer team hit the road last week heading north to take on two very good teams. The soccer team, however, fell short in both of the contests against very capable competition.

The Lady Panthers’ (0-4-0) first game was in Dallas against Southern Methodist University (1-1-1). The Lady Mustangs came out strong because of Caitlin Carter’s huge first half, in which she scored three of the Mustangs’ five goals. Carter’s three goals all came in just over 20 minutes. The Lady Mustangs put more shots on goal than the Lady Panthers 35-1. One shot did, however, squeeze by the goalkeeper for Prairie View’s only point of the match.

The Lady Panthers traveled to Waco for a game against the Baylor Lady Bears on Sept. 7 and returned home with another loss, as the Lady Bears took a 10-1 decision.

The Lady Bears jumped out early on the Lady Panthers with a very explosive offense that scored only 2:19 into the game. The Baylor offensive flurry continued during the rest of the first period as they went on to score five goals in the first half. In the second half, the Lady Panthers didn’t fair much better as they allowed five more goals. Baylor kept Prairie View on the defensive by putting up 38 total shots and getting 19 shots on goal. Andi Fagan, Beckah Brady, and Allie Moran all contributed with two goals for the Baylor Lady Bears while four other Baylor players chipped in with one.

The Panthers got only one shot up and on goal, which hit the back of the net at the 57:14 mark. The goal was scored by forward Angelica Diaz and assisted by Brenda Castillo. The goal was Diaz’s second of the year, which is currently the team lead. Also, Jessica Garcia had another strong performance in front of the net with nine saves for the match.

The team is now preparing for a trip to Beaumont, Texas, to face Lamar University Sept. 12 and a Sept. 14 home contest against Louisiana Tech.
