School vs. School Sibling Rivalry

Blood is thicker than water. Siblings torment each other all the time, but no matter how much they pick on each other, it still is not the same as being picked on by someone else. How is this so? This is because “blood is thicker than water.” When living with someone for most of your lives or your whole lives in some cases, that person becomes close to you and you develop a bond that will never be broken. From childhood siblings learn to see after each other and grow to love each other unconditionally.

Siblings are there for each other in times of need and support each other through their many trials and ventures. What happens when siblings go off to attend college? Do they suddenly become rivals? When their schools compete against each other which side do they root for? When one sibling visits the other’s school it is assumed that they are on the same “side” and rooting for the same cause, but which side are they on when their schools are competing against each other? If one is playing football and he receives a nice pass and begins to run it into the end zone does the other yell “Go! Go! Go!” or is it more along the lines of “Stop him! Tackle Him! Take him down.”

Blood is thicker than water, but when you root for your brother and your school loses then will he ever let you forget it? If this is his last year of college and he is hoping for that championship ring before his football career is over and he loses how does it feel; especially if you are in the stands yelling for your alma mater and wearing your school shirt? Does it even really matter? Is it understood which side to choose if this ever occurs? Does the “blood is thicker than water rule” even count for anything in this situation? Or is it all in good fun?
