Lady Panthers drop doubleheader Saturday

HOUSTON, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers were swept on Saturday afternoon as Texas Southern recorded 11-3 and 7-2 victories at Memorial Park in Houston.

TSU scored big early on as they won the opener 11-3.

The Lady Tigers went up 5-0 after the first but saw its lead drop to 5-3 as Prairie View’s Brittanie Gardner scored after an unearned run followed by Katelyn Den Beste’s two-RBI single to left. Unfortunately, PV’s momentum was short-lived as TSU scored four times in the second in addition to adding a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to call the game.

Gardner was tagged with the loss in 1.2 innings of action while Kesha Hagerman led PV with two hits.

In similar fashion to the opener, TSU scored five runs in the first and held PV at bay as they completed the sweep with a 7-2 victory.

TSU took control early scoring five times in the first to lead 5-0. The score increased to 6-0 after two, before PV’s Bridget Coronado logged a sacrifice RBI to draw within five at 6-1 in the third. Artavia Woods tripled in the fifth and was driven in by Coronado for a 6-2 deficit in the sixth but that would be the final score of the game for PV as TSU added a run in the sixth for the final margin.
