The offices of Student Employment and Career Services have joined forces to help students get better at building their professional
resumes, proper interviewing skills, an dressing for success.
Some students are not aware that there is a big difference between jobs and careers. Jobs are defined as a “piece of work, especially a specific task done, as part of the routine of one’s occupation, or for an agreed price.” Careers are, “Occupations or professions, especially one that requires special training; followed as one’s lifework,” students go to college to seek a career. One of the most important requirements for getting a career is having a resume. This document shows your qualifications and experiences when going on an interview whether in person or on the phone.
Prairie View A&M University is aware that students need resume building skills to get careers; not jobs. There is now an extended employment process for a student that applies to on-campus jobs, to give them learning experiences in applying for a career in the future. All of these skills have been incorporated into workshops that are given at the Career Services office or online.
