Last week the Lady Panthers played Grambling State University and Texas A&M Corpus Christi in hard fought battles. The Lady Panthers were defeated in both contests after losing on Tuesday to rival Texas Southern University. On Thursday the Lady Panthers were defeated by the Grambling State Lady Tigers in Pantherland three games to two. In the first game the Lady Panthers were defeated 30 to 20 in a defensive battle. The Lady Tigers of GSU had a total of 17 kills, five errors and 28 total attacks while the Lady Panthers only had nine kills, six errors, and 26 total attacks. In game two, the Lady Panthers stepped up their performance and came out on top with a score of 30 to 21. The Lady Panthers were excellent on offense and even better on defense.
This time around, the Lady Panthers had more kills, less errors and both teams had a total of 31 attacks. The Lady Panthers closed out the second game with a total attack percentage of .258. With both teams tied at one game a piece, the ladies hit the court very aggressively, trying not to fall short two to one. The Lady Panthers were once again victorious with a close score of 30 to 27. The Lady Panthers took advantage of every GSU mistake to take the win. Although the Lady Panthers had more errors, they dominated defensively with 20 kills and 57 total attacks.
The Lady Tigers took the court refusing to lose. This time around, GSU took the win in another close game with a final score of 30 to 24. Both teams fought hard, but the Lady Tigers fought harder. The Tigers had less kills, but they also had fewer errors than the Lady Panthers, which gave them the win.
In the last and final match of the night, the GSU Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Panthers with a final score of 15 to 8.
Leaders for the Lady Panthers were Jamesha Sutton with an attack percentage of .361, Alexandria Neuls and Jamie Young tied with a percentage of .250, and Lindsey Taylor ended the night with an attack percentage of .167.
On Saturday, the Lady Panthers hosted the Lady Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Lady Panthers were swept three games to none in very close games.
In the first game, the Lady Panthers were defeated 30 to 24. Both teams had an equal number of errors and total attacks, but the Lady Islanders prevailed with teamwork.
In the second game, the Lady Islanders made great defensive plays to shut the Lady Panthers out with a final score of 30 to 18. The Lady Islanders had more kills that pushed them over the edge for the easy win.
In the last match of the night, the Lady Panthers were defeated in a close game.
Freshman Tamika Neuman from Houston was last weeks SWAC player of the week. Neuman leads the Lady Panthers in attack percentage, blocks, kills and serves. The Lady Panthers are in third place overall in the SWAC, falling behind Texas Southern University and Grambling State University.
