The Panther expresses its views on complaints about 20 questions

If Prairie View can’t do anything else, we as students, know how to complain. Last week, a plethora of students complained and one person went to the extent of returning a stack of papers to the newspaper office because 20 questions were not published.

True, 20 questions are unquestionably hilarious until one is put in about you or your organization. You can laugh when the shoe is on the other foot, but as soon as somebody steps on your “precious” toes (egos), you act a fool. You’d think The Panther staff had broken one of the Ten Commandments. Can we say “hypocrite?”

Contrary to popular belief, we do not sit around and keep a journal of what people wear, say, or do. We don’t have cameras shooting secret footage of your daily activities. Students submit the questions each week. So, if you have a complaint about the questions, tough! We can’t please everyone- just deal with it. The one submitting the question could be your best friend or your frat brother.

In a nutshell, 20 questions is a coward’s way out. Whatever people can’t say to your face, they put in that small box on page 14 every week.

The editors have pondered time and time again to discontinue the questions, but when the subject arises, students get angry and upset. The questions are not compiled to harm anyone or create negative publicity. Haven’t you read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page? It’s for entertainment only!

Out of the 7, 000 or more students attending the university, less than 10 could accurately name the people discussed. Quit being so self-absorbed that you throw a tantrum every time you think a question is about you. Find other things to do with your time than demanding to know who submitted the questions. At the end of the day, most people are discussing financial aid, tests, and classes, not who the unknown 20 are.

Remember, if you make the list, you are only famous for a week. Then everyone is on to next week’s victims. But can you do us a favor? Read the rest of the paper for a change. And be careful- you’ll never know who’s writing and submitting questions.
